Pandemic: A Feminist Response
An Online Responsive Art Exhibition presented by FAC
In the mode of social distancing, FAC hosted an online exhibition (facebook, instagram) of COVID-19 responsive art. The inequities we see in the world have only been exacerbated by the reality of COVID-19.
At FAC, we have always championed art as a catalyst for social change, and so want to consider how art contributes to the conversation. How can we use art to reflect on and call for the changes that this pandemic demands?
We invited artists of all disciplines to share with us work created during the pandemic that touches upon the following:
• Coping strategies for individual and community mental health care
• Racial capitalism and the fight for labour rights
• Racial inequities in the number of cases and responses in care
• Disability justice and responses to ableist pandemic policies
• Domestic violence/child abuse during shelter-in-place orders
• The privilege of social distancing
• Artists in the gig economy and the devastation of the arts/culture sector
• The urgency of universal basic income and universal housing
• Indigenous sovereignty and land rights, and environmental justice
