Dr. Joanna Black is currently an Associate Professor of Art Education in the Faculty of Education and is cross-appointed as an Associate Professor in the School of Art at the University of Manitoba, Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada. She teaches visual arts and new media education including video art. Her research interests and published works are on the subjects of the virtual visual arts classroom, new media in education, contemporary art, and digital visual arts pedagogy. Recently she was a co-curator of an international student new media art exhibition called Eksperimenta! in Tallinn Estonia held during April to June 2011. Previous to working at the University of Manitoba, she has worked as an art director for the Inner City Angels in Toronto, curator in Atlanta Georgia, museum art educator at the Montreal Musée des Beaux-Arts, art consultant in Canada and the United States, and a K-12 teacher for close to twenty years in public and alternative school settings.
