Stella Cade has spent much of her life in New York City but has always maintained a direct connection to Toronto, her current base of operations. Cade has studied at the Art Students League, The Cooper Union and has recently completed her BFA from OCADU. Cade uses a tactile and sensuous colour palette to explore the human figure and the often-complex relationship between sex and identity. The subjects of her large portraits actively confront viewers through their steely, confident, outward stares; her works are often revealing selfportraits that comment on our highly sexualized culture. She was recently awarded the People’s Choice Award at the Toronto Outdoor Art Exhibition and The Donna Maclean Award for portrait and representational painting from OCADU. Cade is the Co-Founder of Nest Collective Studios.
