Laura Kelsey Rideout is an emerging poet, writer and theatre performer. She often combines genres like poetry and movement, to find visceral connections lost between political violence and those invisible maps drawn onto the human body. She studied International Development at the University of Guelph, before pursuing the creative and performing arts in Toronto. She facilitates workshops for youth and adult communities that focus on the recovery and creation of voice. Kelsey graduated from the trans-disciplinary arts program at the Watah Theatre in June of 2015, where she produced the first draft of a monodrama entitled arac : no : phobia, exploring issues of confinement and escape. Her poetry has been published in Ochun as well as Black Solo: Canadian Contemporary Monodramas, both by Sorplusi Institute Press. Kelsey is currently working on a monodrama and documentary about loss between a father and daughter as well as her first collection of writings.
