Dana Prieto is an artist and educator born in Argentina and based in Toronto. She holds a BFA from OCAD University and she is currently developing a collaborative and multidisciplinary art project named The Rags Between Us. Her practice deals with ordinary materials and processes that embody constitutional stories of her culture, class and gender identity. Her work circles around femininity, renewal and the mundane through the creation of uncanny and evocative experiences.
Dana is passionate about fostering creative collaborations, working in the intersections of her art and social practice. She has participated in several community art projects, performances and exhibits in Toronto, Halifax, Buenos Aires, Rawson, Quito and Belize. She is a member of 7± 2 collective, which launched their first collaboration on 2015 at the Artscape Youngplace Scotiabank Nuit Blanche. She is the founder of Carnivora, a collaborative art and research project that explores issues around food sovereignty and has been recipient of an RBC Art Access Fund. Dana currently coordinates Critical Soup, an OCAD U award-winning and socially- engaged art initiative that cultivates community wellness by sharing food and opening dialogue about the impacts of extractive companies in Indigenous and foreign communities. For the past thirteen years she has participated in alternative schools, non-profits, art collectives, women’s groups and social movements, collaborating to empower communities through the arts.
