Mahlikah Awe:ri (Walking Woman) is a drum talk poetic rapologist..Mohawk (Kahnawá:ke) & Mi’kmaw (Bear River) heritage, with Nova Scotian roots. She began as a Slam Poet with the Ottawa based Young Poets of the Revolution and at the Honey Jam Showcases in Toronto, Ontario. Mahlikah has been able to integrate her love for poetry into music, theatre. digital storytelling and anything involving the 4 elements of hip hop culture with the mentorship of artists such as: Digging Roots, Martha Redbone, Jani Lauzon, Lillian Allen, Afua Cooper, Amah Harris, Ruth Howard, Pauline Shirt, Rishma Dunlop, Michee Mee and institutions like: Royal Conservatory of Music, CanStage, ImagineNative, Banff New Media Centre, OISE, York University and Ryerson University.
